Settling in
Our apartment is still a mess, but we're slowly getting things unpacked and settling in. This is made difficult by an endless stream of headhunters calling and now days of interviews. Today I see Digitas. Thursday, I'm actually interviewing with Merrill Lynch. I've found an acceptable suit to do this all in... in my closet! Very pleased about that.
I think I've made seven or eight trips to Bed, Bath and Beyond by now. Last night's trip had me flanked by a pair of bears buying throw pillows (this is Chelsea, after all) and Chad Lowe. The checkout guy was lisping to me, sotto voce, "Ask him if he was in Unfaithful!" I did not. But I did feel a little mortified for both the checkout guy and Mr. Lowe.
I am continually reminded that we have moved into a completely different demographic. Our place in London, on Shepherdess Walk, was just right for us. Trendy, with a rough around the edges feel, but thoroughly gentrified, full of hipsters (of which we are not) and other young childless yuppie/dinky types.
The Solaire is like a fucking nursery. The building is amazing - I wouldn't change it for the world - but it's a little overwhelming. I love our apartment and we haven't been kept up by the two-week-old next door yet, but it's crawling with toddlers and their nannies. Along with the fabulous gym this place offers, there is a play room. It's just that bad. This is where investment bankers come to breed. Here and Connecticut.
We're cautious. Maybe it's something in the water....

Pregnancy IS contagious. There is never just one pregnant person at my work. One person will get pregnant, and then 30932182 other people. Then there will be none for awhile. Then as soon as another person gets pregnant, we have 20932653 again.

Good luck with your interviews! I'm glad you found a good suit. Also, I will never go to BB&B anymore without thinking of poor Chad Lowe.
