Hooked

I'm totally jonesing for another jewellery class. Already.

I had originally planned to take three arty classes this summer. I had enrolled in a knitting class, too - figured I'd up the knitting ante and learn some new stuff - but it was cancelled due to lack of interest. So I dropped that one.

I wanted to take a beginning sewing class, but the idea of designing something scared me.

I nearly did a vintage handbags class, but decided not to at the last minute.

There are two classes that interest me now:

Introduction to Silversmithing: 21-25 Aug

This course gives an exciting introduction to the craft of silversmithing. It is an area of design which is both engaging and fulfilling, which will enable you to design and make three dimensional objects. During the course you will work with silver to produce a beautiful piece of work. The course is initially structured around a silversmithing project in which simple and practical techniques are taught. The experience and knowledge gained will enable you to design and make further pieces. The silver for the first project is covered by the course fee but you will need to provide metal for further projects. Personal hand skills such as forming, piercing, soldering and filing will be tackled during the course and tools needed for this will be provided.

Charm Bracelet: 7-11 Aug

This course is designed to celebrate the charm bracelet. After producing a handmade chain, different specialist tutors will teach you techniques for forming the charms: stone setting, carved wax casting, a coloured charm and a found object piece. There is always a catch and you will have to make it to complete the work. This course is ideal for intermediate students or confident beginners.
